Personalised Celebrant Training

Celebrants are people who create and lead individualised wedding, funeral, and life event ceremonies. We are all different, lead different lives, have different spiritual or religious beliefs, have different physical and cultural needs, unique identities, and are drawn to different interests. When we train to become celebrants, shouldn’t our training be directed to the style of celebrancy we are drawn to rather than having to learn the same course content every celebrant is taught? Personalised celebrant training wasn’t available until we here at Choice Celebrant Training made it standard. Here, choice is standard for every trainee celebrant.

Like the donuts in the main picture for this blog, celebrant training can look similar with different decorations, but it isn’t. Personalised celebrant training is more beneficial than standardised celebrant training offered by celebrant companies and organisations. A celebrant’s role is to offer individualised ceremonies, yet they are expected to do this after being trained with the same course content as every celebrant who trains. ‘One size fits all’, not here it doesn’t.

Why aren’t wedding and funeral celebrants given individualised celebrant training?
Why are celebrants been taught the same things through 1-2-1, 1 on 1 or through group training?
What does individualised and personalised celebrant training mean to you?

If you are researching celebrant training, would you like a course which is directed by your choices as a celebrant, or a course taught to every trainee celebrant?

Personalised Celebrant Training

Every trainee wedding and/or funeral celebrant is the future of celebrancy, yet many are being taught with course materials of the past; taught to virtually every student celebrant who has taken that course. The selling point of all celebrants is the promise and declaration of the creation of every ceremony being a personalised ceremony, created for each person or each set of people.

Why isn’t personalised celebrant training based on the choices and needs of each trainee celebrant more widespread?
Why are most trainee celebrants expected to learn from templated and scripted courses?
Why can’t trainee celebrants choose what style of ceremony they learn to create?
Why are trainee celebrants expected to fit into the training rather than their training be tailored to their individual needs? Why are there so many celebrant training companies offering similar content?

Possible reasons could include:

  • Celebrant trainers and companies have a lack of knowledge and experience in alternative, creative and lifestyle centred ceremonies.
  • Many may only have experience and knowledge of traditional weddings and funerals.
  • A lack of experience and knowledge in ceremony trends.
  • A possible lack of knowledge to be able to offer individualised celebrant training.
  • Refusal to move out of a created comfort zone which would require new course materials and content being devised and taught.
  • No desire to move forward as ‘if it isn’t broken, why fix it?’
  • Fear of losing sign ups to their courses if they offer individualised training.
  • Not cost or time effective for them.
  • Individualised training can’t be offered to groups (incorrect).
  • Personal or company beliefs that weddings/funerals must fit into certain boxes and not stray from a traditional path as this is what clients want/are required to follow.
  • Following what other companies are doing.
  • A need to gain as many members as possible in a bid to demonstrate popularity, or for an ego boost. (Quality not quantity is a well-known saying). Your training is for you and about you, it isn’t a popularity example or a personal ego boost for our Celebrant Trainers.

This is what makes us here at Choice Celebrant Training different from other celebrant training companies, organisations, and online celebrant training course providers.  Every student celebrant chooses what they want to learn to enable them to start and grow a celebrant business based on the style of ceremony they want to create, or the kind of celebrant they want to be. Choice Celebrant Training was founded by original alternative celebrant Ellie Farrell who was previously the lead trainer with one of the most established celebrant training companies.

Choice Celebrant Training:

  • We do not use templated or scripted ceremonies in our training.
  • We do not expect any student celebrant to use the same training materials, all are personalised to every student celebrant’s choices and needs.
  • We have the knowledge, experience and understanding modern life has changed and tradition has a place for some and is irrelevant to others.
  • We embrace individuality and see trainee celebrants as individuals, not as clones of past trained celebrants.
  • We do not expect you to fit within a box, we support you to break out of it with the creativity you have brought out during your training.
  • A celebrant has so much more to offer than the four standard ceremonies trained and commonly associated with celebrants. (Weddings, renewal of vows, naming, funerals).
  • We acknowledge wedding and funeral ceremony requirements have changed and this is at the centre of our training. Modern takes on traditional framework ceremonies aren’t appealing to all, nor do they embrace diversity.
  • Diversity is important to us, you are diverse, all our Celebrant Trainers and our in house Graphic Designer/Web Designer is diverse. Celebrants aren’t of the same gender, race, age, religion, culture, sexual orientation, subcultural with identical physical or learning abilities.
  • We encourage every trainee celebrant to stand proud of who you are and what attributes you have. There isn’t a need to conform to suggested dress codes (yes, some training organisations suggest this. You can wear Docs to lead any ceremony if your clients are ok with it). Tattoos, bright hair, hair styles, personal style and clothing are part of you so embrace them, don’t feel you have to hide who you are. People buy people, like attracts like.
  • You do not have to be of a certain age, a retired academic or from a ‘professional background’ to train or work as a celebrant. Life experience is a key part of what makes a good celebrant.
  • We can train you to design, create and lead Pagan, Goth, Steampunk, subculture, theatrical or historical ceremonies as we have the knowledge and experience.
  • We do not use any AI content on our website, socials, course content, course materials, training, communication or in any of the celebrant CPD courses we offer.
  • We recognise learning is a two way experience and we like to learn from our trainee celebrants and Choice Community Celebrants.
  • We welcome honest feedback and recommendations so we can address and amend any areas we have faltered in, not to gain flattery which isn’t what we are about.

Experiencing the right kind of training with the right kind of Celebrant Trainer is essential to enable each student celebrant to gain work, (the reason for celebrant training). Personalised celebrant training is the first step to becoming a successful celebrant.

What is Personalised Celebrant Training?

Personalised celebrant trained is a term with different meanings. Most celebrant training companies refer to 1-2-1 or face to face training (online or in person) as personalised celebrant training.

We define personalised celebrant training by the only definition we understand it to be and that is celebrant training taught on an individual needs level. Training just for you, not taught to others regardless of if it is taught online or in person with you and your chosen (you choose you Celebrant Trainer when you choose to train with us) Celebrant Trainer.

The term may be the same, but the meaning can be different.

Why Personalised Celebrant Training is Essential

Do you know what kind of celebrant you want to be?
Do you want to be a wedding and/or funeral celebrant?
Do you want to spend your hard earned money on learning how to become a celebrant like everyone becomes a celebrant, having to then spend further time/money to teach yourself at the end of it, or do you want to learn how to get to your goal from your training?

Celebrant Weddings and Funerals

When we design, create, and lead any ceremony, we do so with the understanding it must always be about our clients and what matters to them. Celebrant weddings and funerals should differ between celebrants and between their clients as a personalised ceremony. A personalised ceremony doesn’t mean a change of name from the last person or people it was used for (sadly this happens).

People who use the services of a wedding or funeral celebrant deserve a personalised ceremony, not a scripted ceremony previously used for others. This is why celebrants charge the fees they charge as reading a ceremony on the day is the final stage after many long hours creating each ceremony. When a celebrant has had personalised celebrant training, the creativity and uniqueness brought to each ceremony stands out.

Finding the Right Kind of Personalised Celebrant Training

When researching prospective celebrant training, it is crucial to find the training company which suits your needs.

  • A country retreat is an experience, but will it equip you with the knowledge and skills to create the style of ceremonies you want to lead and to connect with the kinds of clients you are looking for?
  • Face to face training enabling you to complete training in a few days may appeal to your other commitments such as family, employment or situation, but will it teach you to become the celebrant you want to be?
  • Group training in a hotel conference room will give you the opportunity to meet other trainee celebrants, but will it give you the opportunity to learn what you need to learn to start your unique celebrant business?
  • A fast pace online training course will work you hard to teach you how to become a celebrant in a certain amount of days, but will it give you the individualised knowledge you need in for your style of celebrancy?

It is important to keep this advice at mind when researching celebrant training:

‘Will this training teach me the skills and knowledge I need to learn to become the kind of celebrant I want to be?’

Previously those who wanted to be non-traditional celebrants such as alternative celebrants, Pagan celebrants, lifestyle celebrants and historical celebrants (to name a few), were expected to train as every traditional and modern celebrant trained, using the same materials and course content. While many training companies still only have this option, we at Choice Celebrant Training offer personalised celebrant training. We started our company because of the need for personalised celebrant training.

When you choose to train with us, you do not need to adapt what you have learnt to create your ceremonies. Our training is unique from the start to the end.

Celebrant Business Support

If you are training to become a celebrant to make a business from your training, you will require continuing support and advice. Celebrancy can be lonely at times, especially if you hope to become an alternative celebrant or a celebrant who specialises in certain ceremony themes or styles.

Support comes not only from you Celebrant Trainer, but also from other likeminded celebrants. There are many groups for celebrants on Facebook, but most could only have a few likeminded celebrants. All contain advice and support (some incorrect so be weary). Their training, business models, clients and experiences will differ if they are a certain kind of celebrant.

With the right training and business set up (we help, support, and advise every celebrant who chooses to train with us how to do these things), it shouldn’t be long before enquiries then bookings happen.

Like attracts like and people are drawn to people. You clients will look for a celebrant who understands their lifestyle, spiritual beliefs, or their physical or cultural needs. Personalised celebrant training is step on your journey as a celebrant of the future.

We recognise we aren’t the right celebrant training company for many trainee celebrants, could we be the right trainers for you? Why not give us a call or fill in the callback form for us to contact you at your chosen time if you have further information.
